A Loyal Friend Is A Strong Defense
Just sitting under my umbrella, chatting with a friend
Sharing a precious moment, not wanting it to end
Soon the rain will fall, my friend will go his way
But with me will remain the memory of this day.
Life is full of many things, each day brings something new
The umbrella against the rain, a friend good and true
Some days bring me trouble, some bring hurt, other sorrow
Then God fills me with hope and gives sunshine for tomorrow.
I know I must remember when I'm worried or tense
God gives to us, each other, a friend is a strong defense
And I must keep in mind as I think to defend
God provides the umbrella, but I must be the friend.
God's Bow
We have the rainbow as a sign
of an everlasting covenant with God,
a promise that will not be broken.
Never again will the earth flood
and take every breath of life from under heaven.
When you look upon the rainbow
please know that God is looking too
and remembering his promise to Noah.
Storms will rage and rains will fall
but his word is forever and his promise is true.
When you see the bow in the clouds
remember the One who changed the course of man
and until the last breath is taken
he holds the world in his hands
and he is still in control.
Genesis 9: Verses 13 & 16
Face The Storm
If thunder rends the air with mighty clap
and lightning cracks across the blackened sky,
then who will cringe in fear and hide or who
will brave the storm, resist the urge to flee?
What if the boom of thunder is so loud
it shakes your house and rattles dishes too?
What if the lightning strikes a tree outside?
Will you recoil and scoot beneath your bed
or will you stand and face the rain that comes?
A life on earth is filled with flare of fire
so hot it burns our dreams and leaves us ash,
but one must not tell God how big the storm.
Instead, go tell the storm how big is God.
Promise
The thorny branch in bud
brings promise of the lovely rose,
and with want to share its beauty
blossoms full in scarlet pose.
A child's imagination
feeds the springs of dreams come true.
From projected promised glory
strength for life begins anew.
A lashing storm, a snowdrift rising,
a glimpse through God's all-seeing eye,
these remind us of his promise
and teach us that he cannot lie.
"A new promise I give," the Prophet heard
"They shall know me, the greatest and the least."
At the time appointed, Jesus came
for promises are made to keep.
For upon each promise
rests a hope of things to be.
When life was young, and hearts were tender-
promised love remembered, God gave you to me.
Thank You, God
Thank you, God
for making me poor
so that I could learn to
appreciate what I have
Thank you for hard work
which teaches me
the value of rest
Thank you for illness
giving me a true
empathy for others
Thank you for difficulty
which puts before me
opportunities to grow
Thank you for weakness
making me draw on
your unfailing strength
Thank you for mistakes
I've made, causing me
to seek your wisdom
Thank you, God, for
who you are, and
who you've made me
I Believe God Invented Dancing
Why should I think this way?
Have you watched the tall grass sway?
Have you ever noticed leaves,
merrily responding to the breeze,
considered a robin's "bob and run,"
searching for wiggly worm,
or the dolphins' graceful glide,
never happening to collide,
traced a butterfly's pirouette
just before it comes to rest
on a dandelion's fluff,
still clinging to its ruff?
Even the stars of the night
shimmy and bounce in my sight.
There's no earthly reason why,
in abandon, should not I
throw caution to the wind,
cut myself loose, twirl and spin
raise my arms in ardent praise
for glorious dance-filled days!
A New Day
A wonderful gift
our Father gives us
in his infinite grace;
each new day begins
by his boundless mercy
with a brand new slate.
Yesterday is gone;
is but a memory,
hopes left unfulfilled
dreams unsatisfied
plans not realized.
The time seems wasted now.
But today is mine
to plan again.
Hope restored,
strength renewed,
I dream again
and try once more.
Awake My Soul
Awake, my soul for God is near.
Awake and find release from fear.
Surrender, my soul for only then
will his full power be felt within.
Rest, my soul, his way is best.
Through quiet trust comes peace and rest.
Awake, my soul, awake and bring
the song my lips crave to sing.
