"For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of his dear Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins."
(Col. 1.13)
When we are saved we start living for God and his Kingdom. When we receive the King of Kings and Lord of Lords as our Lord and Savior we receive the Kingdom. The Holy Spirit we receive is doing the work of the Kingdom in our lives, manifesting the power and mind of God. The apostle Paul expressed this to the Colossians:
"For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of his dear Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins." (Col.1.9-13).
We see that our redemption, which is the forgiveness of sins made possible by Jesus giving his life by suffering on the cross at Calvary, taking on himself our sins, giving to us his righteousness, making possible for us to be reconciled to the Father, is how we are admitted into his presence. We see this in the letter to the Ephesians:
"Praise be to God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, according to his pleasure and will- to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins in accordance with the riches of God's grace, which he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding. And he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment- to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, Christ Jesus." (Eph. 1.3-10).
UNIVERSAL RECONCILIATION
In the fullness of time everything and everyone in the universe will be brought into the unity of Jesus Christ. This will be a most glorious and much anticipated time. In the meanwhile our task is to spread the Good News of salvation through the redeeming work of Jesus Christ on the cross and his resurrection, which is the basis of our faith.
In the meanwhile we are children of God, heirs of the Kingdom, joint-heirs with Jesus Christ, recipients of the most precious gift ever, God's Son. We have the Holy Spirit to help us with our weaknesses, the difficulties of life and to show us the marvelous and magnificent things of God. The Holy Spirit empowers us to fulfill his will in our lives and also enables us to be as he wants us to be, spirit-born, spirit-filled, born-again children of God. He gave us the Holy Spirit, as the guarantor and guardian of his inheritance. Here is where we find this in scripture:
"In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, in order that we who were the first to trust in Christ, might be to the praise of his glory. And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the good news of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession- to the praise of his glory."(Eph.1.11-14).
What a blessed assurance, what beneficence, what tremendous honor and privilege to be chosen by God the Father to share eternity with him. Glory, honor, power and praise to his Holy name in Jesus Christ forevermore.
